Project Cycle Management Manual
English
The Project Cycle Management Manual is a comprehensive, adaptable guide designed for civil society organizations (CSOs) operating in humanitarian and development contexts. Developed through an IRC-led initiative with Sida funding and NEAR advisory support, it walks organizations through all five phases of the project lifecycle; identification, design, planning, implementation, and closure/transition, while grounding every phase in Results-Based Management (RBM) principles. The manual stands out by treating cross-cutting themes not as optional add-ons but as core requirements: gender equality, protection mainstreaming, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), disability inclusion, HIV/AIDS considerations, environmental sustainability, and data protection are woven throughout. Practical tools including the problem tree, objectives tree, logframe, RACI matrix, risk matrix, MEAL plan, and stakeholder engagement strategy make the manual directly actionable for field teams. Written in accessible, non-technical language and structured to scale for small and medium-sized organizations, it provides a values-based foundation grounded in five project management principles — Well-Governed, Participatory, Comprehensive, Integrated, and Adaptive, ensuring that projects are structured, context-sensitive, and accountable to the communities they serve.
